Tenet
Healthcare Corporation provides health care
services primarily through the operation of
general hospitals and related health care
facilities in the United States. It also
operates various related health care facilities,
including rehabilitation hospital; long-term
acute care hospital; skilled nursing facility;
and various medical office buildings. The
company's hospitals offer acute care services,
operating and recovery rooms, radiology
services, respiratory therapy services, clinical
laboratories, and pharmacies, as well as
intensive care, critical care and/or coronary
care units; physical therapy; and orthopedic,
oncology, and outpatient services. In addition,
Tenet Healthcare provides tertiary care
services, such as open-heart surgery, neonatal
intensive care, and neuroscience; quaternary
care in areas, such as heart, lung, liver, and
kidney transplants; gamma-knife brain surgery;
and cyberknife surgery for tumors and lesions in
the brain, lung, neck, and spine. Further, it
operates children hospitals and cancer treatment
hospitals. Additionally, Tenet Healthcare
operates physician practices, captive insurance
companies, and other ancillary health care
business, including outpatient surgery centers,
diagnostic imaging centers, and occupational and
rural health care clinics, as well as owns
interests in two health maintenance
organizations. As of December 31, 2007, the
company operated 57 general hospitals, a cancer
hospital, and a critical access hospital, with a
total of 15,244 licensed beds, serving urban and
rural communities in 12 states. Tenet Healthcare
was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in
Dallas, Texas. |
